A young woman wearing glasses and a blue hoodie sits at a wooden desk by a window, writing in a notebook with a pen. She is surrounded by textbooks, including titles like 'Physics' and 'Biology', a laptop, colorful pens, and a mug that reads 'FOCUS'. The background features bookshelves and educational posters.

NEET 2027 has 79 chapters, but not every chapter has the same number of questions. This guide shows how many marks each chapter usually carries in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, based on NEET papers from 2021 to 2026. Sort the table, check trends, set a target score, and track your revision in one place.

NEET 2027 Exam Pattern and Marks Distribution

NEET 2027 has 180 questions worth 720 marks. Physics and Chemistry have 45 questions each, and Biology has 90. The optional Section B has been removed, so every question is compulsory.

NEET 2027 Syllabus: 97 to 79 Chapters, What Was Removed

The NMC cut the NEET 2027 syllabus from 97 chapters to 79. This change removed repeated and low-weightage topics. The 79 chapters split roughly into 20 in Physics, 22 in Chemistry, and 37 in Biology.

What to do with this:

  • Download the official NMC syllabus PDF and compare it with your coaching or school notes.

  • Cross out any topic that is not in the official list. Old books and old test series may still include it.

  • When you read old question papers, skip questions from removed chapters.

Expect no big change before the exam. The NMC is expected to release the updated 2027 syllabus around February 2027. On 23 December 2025, the NMC confirmed no changes to the NEET 2026 syllabus.

NEET 2027 Chapter-Wise Weightage (All 79 Chapters)

Chapter-wise weightage tells you how many questions NEET usually asks from each chapter. Use it to decide where your study hours should go first. Numbers below are approximate ranges, so always read them as “about” and not “exactly”.

Quick view of the biggest scorers (approximate, per paper):

Subject

Chapter groups that give the most questions

Biology

Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, Ecology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology

Physics

Mechanics (motion, laws, work-energy, rotation), Current Electricity, Modern Physics, Optics, Thermodynamics

Chemistry

Organic Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, Equilibrium

Insight: One analysis finds that Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, Ecology, Cell Biology and Biotechnology together make up about 45% of Biology. That is why a few chapters deserve your first attention.

NEET 2027 Biology Chapter-Wise Weightage

Biology gives 90 questions, split evenly between Botany and Zoology. Class 11 and Class 12 both matter, and almost every question comes from NCERT.

NEET Botany Chapter-Wise Weightage

Botany has 45 questions. Class 12 topics like Genetics, Ecology, and Biotechnology usually get a bigger share.

  • Usually heavy: Principles of Inheritance and Variation, Molecular Basis of Inheritance, Organisms and Populations, Ecosystem, Biodiversity and Conservation.

  • Steady: Plant Physiology chapters (photosynthesis, respiration, plant growth), Morphology and Anatomy of Flowering Plants.

  • Lighter: Plant Kingdom and Biological Classification often give fewer questions, but they are easy to prepare.

NEET Zoology Chapter-Wise Weightage

Zoology has 45 questions. Human Physiology is the single biggest block.

  • Heavy: Breathing and Exchange of Gases, Body Fluids and Circulation, Excretory Products, Neural Control, Chemical Coordination.

  • Steady: Human Reproduction, Reproductive Health, Evolution.

  • Lighter: Animal Kingdom and Structural Organisation in Animals usually give a smaller share.

High-Yield Biology Chapters for NEET 2027

High-yield chapters give many questions and stay predictable. These five deserve the first slot in your plan:

  1. Human Physiology: the largest set of questions in any Biology topic.

  2. Genetics (Inheritance and Molecular Basis): mixes theory with small problems.

  3. Ecology: short chapters with direct NCERT lines and definitions.

  4. Cell Biology (Cell, Cell Cycle, Biomolecules): a base for many other chapters.

  5. Biotechnology: questions on tools, processes, and applications.

NCERT Line-Based Questions in Biology

Most Biology questions come directly from NCERT text, examples, tables, and diagrams. Wrong options often change one word or number from the NCERT line, so precise reading matters.

Do this:

  • Read NCERT line by line, twice.

  • Underline numbers, names, and exceptions.

  • Practice with NEET questions to see how lines get twisted.

Diagram, Table and Assertion-Reason Questions

NEET Biology often uses statement-based questions, matching tables, diagrams, and assertion-reason formats (one statement claims something, another gives the reason). Use these habits to prepare:

  • Redraw NCERT diagrams and label them from memory.

  • Make small tables for classification, hormones, diseases and organelles.

  • For assertion-reason, first decide if each statement is true, then check if the reason explains the assertion.

NEET 2027 Physics Chapter-Wise Weightage

An educational infographic outlining expected chapter-wise weightage for NEET 2027 across Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. It features structured bar charts, radar plots, and summary tables detailing high-yield topics, question counts, and mark distributions for exam preparation.

Physics has 45 questions worth 180 marks. Questions are spread across many chapters, so no single chapter dominates the way Human Physiology does in Biology.

Class 11 vs Class 12 Physics Weightage

The paper draws from both classes, and the split is roughly balanced. Class 11 brings Mechanics, Properties of Matter, Thermodynamics, and Waves. Class 12 brings Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, Modern Physics, and Semiconductors.

Do not skip Class 11. Mechanics builds the base for many Class 12 problems.

Most Scoring Physics Chapters for NEET 2027

Scoring chapters give many questions and are easier to get right. Focus on these:

  • Current Electricity: a few formulas cover most questions.

  • Modern Physics (Dual Nature, Atoms, Nuclei): short and formula-based.

  • Ray Optics and Wave Optics: mostly direct formula use.

  • Electrostatics and Capacitors: predictable problem types.

  • Thermodynamics and Kinetic Theory: concept plus a few formulas.

Numerical vs Conceptual Questions

Physics mixes numerical questions (you calculate) and conceptual ones (you reason without much maths). Numerical questions in NEET are usually short and need one or two steps. Conceptual ones test your understanding of definitions, graphs and units.

Practice both. For each chapter, solve 15-20 numerical questions and 10 conceptual ones.

Physics Chapters That Repeat the Same Question Types

Some chapters keep asking the same style of question year after year. Learn these patterns:

  • Current Electricity: Kirchhoff's rules, series and parallel circuits, Wheatstone bridge.

  • Optics: lens and mirror formulas, refraction at surfaces, Young's double-slit.

  • Modern Physics: photoelectric equation, energy levels of the hydrogen atom, nuclear binding energy.

  • Mechanics: projectile motion, friction on slopes, collisions.

Keep a one-page formula sheet for each of these chapters.

NEET 2027 Chemistry Chapter-Wise Weightage

Chemistry has 45 questions worth 180 marks, spread over three branches. One analysis finds Chemical Bonding, Organic Chemistry, Coordination Compounds, and Electrochemistry together make up 35–40% of the subject.

Physical vs Organic vs Inorganic Chemistry Weightage

The three branches share the paper in roughly equal parts, with small changes each year.

Branch

What it covers

How to study

Physical

Mole concept, equilibrium, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, kinetics

Practice numericals daily

Organic

Basic principles (GOC), hydrocarbons, functional groups, biomolecules

Learn reactions and mechanisms

Inorganic

Periodic table, bonding, p, d and f block, coordination compounds

Read NCERT and memorise

NCERT-Based Inorganic Chemistry Questions

Inorganic questions mostly come straight from NCERT text. You can score full marks here if you read the book carefully.

  • Focus on tables, trends, exceptions, and colours of compounds.

  • Make short notes on periodic trends, oxidation states, and properties.

  • Revise weekly, since inorganic depends on memory.

Easiest Chemistry Chapters for NEET 2027

Easy chapters are quick to finish and pay off fast. Start with these:

  • Chemical Bonding

  • Periodic Classification and Periodicity

  • Coordination Compounds

  • Electrochemistry (basic formulas)

  • Biomolecules and Polymers

Organic Reaction Mechanisms vs Named Reactions

Both appear, but mechanisms carry more weight because they help with many questions at once. Learn how electrons move in reactions like SN1, SN2, and elimination. Then memorise named reactions such as Aldol, Cannizzaro, Sandmeyer, and Hoffmann bromamide.

Tip: Make a reaction map for each functional group. Show how one compound changes into another.

Chapter Weightage Trend Analysis (2021 to 2026)

Trend analysis shows which chapters NEET asks about every year and which ones swing up and down. Consistent chapters are safer bets. Volatile chapters can give a surprise, so treat them as second priority.

Consistent vs volatile chapters:

Type

What it means

Examples of where they appear

Consistent

Asked every year with a similar number of questions

Human Physiology, Genetics, core Mechanics and Electricity

Volatile

Question count changes a lot

Many smaller Chemistry and Physics chapters

Two rules for reading trends:

  • Count only chapters that remain in the 79-chapter syllabus. Papers from earlier years contain questions from removed chapters.

  • Compare average marks, not a single year. A chapter with 5 questions in one paper and 1 in the next averages 3.

Which NEET 2027 Chapters to Study First

Study high-weightage, low-difficulty chapters first. This gives the most marks per hour of study.

Tier

What it includes

Suggested share of study time

Must-Do

High-weightage chapters, such as Human Physiology, Genetics, Current Electricity, Chemical Bonding

About 50%

Should-Do

Medium-weightage chapters with steady questions

About 35%

Low-Return

Low-weightage chapters with irregular questions

About 15%

Example week: Spend four days on Must-Do chapters, two days on Should-Do chapters, and one day on revision or Low-Return topics.

NEET 2027 Target Score Planner

A target score planner tells you how many correct answers you need. It also helps you split marks across subjects.

Example: target 600

  • If you attempt all 180 questions, you need about 156 correct and 24 wrong. (156 × 4 = 624, minus 24 = 600.)

  • If you attempt 170 questions, you need about 154 correct and 16 wrong.

  • One possible split: Biology 320, Chemistry 160, Physics 120.

Rule: Each wrong answer costs 5 marks in effect (you lose 1 and miss the 4 you could have won). Do not guess when you cannot eliminate at least two options.

NEET 2027 Chapter Tracker (Free)

A chapter tracker helps you see what you finished and what you must revise. Tick a chapter once you finish it, then mark it as revised each time you revise it.

How to use it:

  1. Finish each chapter once and tick it.

  2. Revise after 7 days, then after 30 days.

  3. Add a star to chapters where you scored below 60% in practice tests.

  4. Review your progress bars every Sunday.

Can You Skip Low-Weightage Chapters?

You can skip some low-weightage chapters, but only after finishing the Must-Do and Should-Do groups. Skipping too early puts marks at risk, because a chapter that gave 1 question one year may give 3 the next.

Before you skip, check:

  • Its average number of questions across several years

  • Its highest count in any single year

  • How long it takes to finish

Rules:

  • Do not skip Biology chapters. They are short, and NCERT lines give easy marks.

  • Skip a hard Physics or Chemistry chapter only if it gives about 1 question on average and takes long to master.

  • Skipping one chapter of 1 question costs up to 4 marks. That is fine only if you use the time to improve a bigger chapter.

Quick Quiz: Do You Know Where the Marks Are?

How We Calculated This Data

We tagged each question in NEET papers from 2021 to 2026 to its NCERT chapter. We then counted questions per chapter each year and calculated averages, ranges and trends. Difficulty ratings come from how many students usually answer correctly and from question length and steps.

What the data can and cannot tell you:

  • It shows past patterns. It does not predict the 2027 paper.

  • Chapters removed from the syllabus are excluded from the 79-chapter count.

  • Numbers are averages, so single years may differ.
